I haven't heard a whole lot of players talking about the course yet, but I'm sure we will here more and more the next two days. I heard McDowell say he doesn't think anybody will break par. As all US Opens, it will be long, fairways and greens will get progressively firmer over the week, and the rough will be rough.

So what type of players can win here? Can a shorter/straighter hitter contend?

These are my early thoughts:

Westwood/Mickelson......but there is no value in them so I won't bet em on futures
Dustin Johnson......bombs it and can putt
Bubba Watson....bombs it and can put. Just have to worry about Bubba keeping it together between the ears
Sergio Garcia.....I actually really like Sergio to be in the mix come Sunday
Jason Day
Rory Mcillroy
K.J. Choi....be an idiot not to have him on any list
Angel Cabrera.....guy shows up at majors and always has value
Ian Poulter.....I hate the guy, but he is gonna win one at some point

Sergio, Day, and Choi are the only ones I'm on so far. I like the longshots....share your info on course, players or whatever else you have and let's win some money

I like your thoughts on Sergio. I watched him a few days last week here in Memphis and while he shot a 78 in the first round he made an 11 on the hole and you could tell he wasnt playing for score but was trying to continue to pull off the shot. In a bigger tournament he would've played it completely different. He hit the ball well also and if he can get his putter going for the Open could go pretty low.

I always put a little something on Cabrera.. They have caught on tho with him a bit.. He was 150-1 for the Masters Now he is 105 -1 for the Open. I just Bet David Toms at 70-1.. He is playing great and is top 5 in Driving Accuracy (which you will need at the Open)and is Top 5 in Greens in Regulation.. The Only thing going against him is his age 44 and he did miss a 4 footer in the TPC Playoff.. Never really liked Sergio He hasnt been in a top 5 of a major in over 3 years and i always condsidered him a choker..

I really like Westwood this week, saw some 12/1. My boy Mickelson at 14/1 isn't bad either He seems to be a factor in this tournament most years. You probably could hedge your bet to some extent on Sunday. I like Choi too. 33/1 is worth some $$ down

With what little info I'm hearing, sounds like players that can hit it right to left off the tee and long will have the advantage this week (if right to left is crucial, don't waste your money on kaymer, he got to #1 in the world.....but he can't draw a golf ball? Unreal) . I read an interview transcript on KJ, it didn't blow me away with his confidence, but I'm already locked in on him.

Ernie Els has good value and sounded confident in his interview this week. He's another guy that is at the point in his career he only cares about majors.

Gun to my head, I'd pick Westwood to win right now....but I need more than 12/1 to pick a guy that hasn't won a major.

Another guy I think will win a major soon is Ross Fisher....I will put a little on him at +10000, just so I dnt have to kick myself if he wins....he's hasn't been playing great lately but he shows up in at hard courses.

Geoff Ogilvy?
Woodland?
Quiros?

yea, i had retief goosen in a matchup against sergio in that round....sergio had to play a qualifier last week as well, he wasnt interested in the st jude tourn. he did play well on friday last week, and he has played well all year, but he keeps having that one round that takes him out of the tourny....hopefully he pulls it together this week and wins me $6000, or at least gets up in the hunt on sunday so i can hedge off him

I think Matt Kuchar is set to make a run at his first major win. Also think Dustin Johnson and Luke Donald will be in the mix on Sunday.

I will probably put something small on Els also. I know he hasn't been playing well but as you said he does aim towards the majors and being that he won the US Open the last time it was played heard doesn't hurt the confidence as their is something to be said when you can draw upon favorable memories from the past. Also, he obviously probably likes and plays the course well.

I'm in kuchar and Johnson already....I'm not a Donald believer by any means and his odds are really really shitty because of his "ranking". He gets a lot of backdoor top 5's because he plays for top 5's and doesn't usually take the risks the winners take

Kuchar doesn't have the killer closing attitude for me to play him to WIN the Open. Seems like a better top 10 finish, even though he didn't even get that in the Masters. I'm on D. Johnson, he has the game. Going to also play Choi, Phil, Rory, and Westwood. Might look at some long shots like Cabrera too. Problem with this tournament, alot of golfers could win this week and You could lose alot of money if you play to many of them. Can't discard Taylor's boy in Day either. Going to check out the odds now at the shops I have.

Yea I agree, kuchar is basically another Luke donald. I just want as many guys around the lead as possible when Sunday rolls around....I can hedge if I have to.....the only thing going against day is I heard yesterday nobody has won the US OPEN in their first try, and this is Days first try. But day is solid and I'm on him. He's worth a shot for sure

What about Yang ? Man you can get 130/1 on him at 5Dimes. Cabrera at 120/1 seems like a good play too. Here are some props I like, but going to see if I can beat them.

Els miss cut +125
Westwood -115 to finish under 14 1/2 position
Phil -140 """"""""""" 18 1/2
Rory-115 """"""""""""""" 24 1/2
D. Johnson -135""""""""""""" 29 1/2

Els getting alot of love because of past success at this venue. I easily could see him missing the cut here
